Engineering & advisory

Define and design before committing to implementation.

Turn a technical need into clear decisions, properly sized solutions and usable documents.

Whether it is a change to an existing installation, a new automation function or a project that is still loosely defined, we analyse the need, the existing installation and the technical, operational and regulatory constraints to secure the choices before implementation.

01

When should a study come in?

A study is most valuable when a need has to be clarified before committing to implementation, a modification or an investment.

  • an idea or solution needs to be checked before committing time, equipment or site work
  • an existing installation needs to evolve without compromising its current operation
  • a control panel, switchboard or automation function needs to be sized and specified
  • several disciplines or suppliers need to be coordinated around shared interfaces
  • drawings, specifications or other technical documents are required for consultation, implementation or testing
  • testing, commissioning or qualification conditions need to be anticipated from the design stage

02

What a study can cover

Depending on how far the project is defined, our work can range from a feasibility analysis to preparing implementation and testing.

Analysis & feasibility

Review of the existing installation, technical and operational constraints, risk identification and comparison of the available options.

Design & sizing

Definition of the architecture, technical choices, sizing, drawings, interfaces and operating principles.

Upgrades & modernisation

Changes to existing installations, replacement of obsolete equipment, adaptation of systems and integration of new functions.

Implementation readiness

Drawings, specifications, equipment lists, tender documents and preparation for testing, commissioning or qualification where required.

The scope of the study is defined according to your objectives, the existing installation and the expected deliverables.

03

Clear decisions and usable deliverables

A study should secure the technical choices and provide what is needed to take the project forward on a sound footing.

Decisions to clarify

  • architecture and operating principles
  • technical choices and sizing
  • interfaces between systems, equipment and the parties involved
  • operating constraints and points of attention
  • responsibilities and scope boundaries
  • testing, commissioning and qualification strategy where required

Possible deliverables

  • drawings, diagrams and design documents
  • sizing notes and technical analyses
  • scopes of work and specifications
  • equipment lists and tender documents
  • system overviews, interface matrices or operating principles
  • FAT/SAT and commissioning preparation documents
  • IQ/OQ/PQ qualification protocols and documentation, according to project requirements

Deliverables and the level of qualification are defined according to the context, the applicable requirements and the project phase.

04

A structured method, matched to how far the project is defined

1. Understand

Clarify the need, the objectives, the existing installation, and the technical and operational constraints.

2. Analyse

Identify the risks, the interfaces, the applicable requirements and the available options.

3. Define

Choose and size the solution, specify the architecture, the operating principles and the responsibilities.

4. Formalise

Produce the documents needed to tender, build, test, commission or qualify, within the agreed scope.

The assignment can stop at any one of these steps or cover the whole process, depending on your needs.

05

From study to implementation

A study can be a service in its own right or the basis for delivering a project.

Depending on the needs identified, it can prepare, among other things:

Industrial electrical works

The design and build of electrical panels, changes to installations, wiring and connections.

Automation & configurable systems

The development or integration of automation solutions, airlock management, pressure control or supervisory interfaces.

EMS systems

The design or upgrade of environmental monitoring systems, the choice of instrumentation and the definition of technical interfaces.

Mapping & metrology

Defining measurement needs, preparing mapping campaigns and characterising equipment or storage areas.

In regulated environments, GMP/GxP, documentation and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) requirements can be anticipated from the study phase, depending on the project scope.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to practical questions on preparing and launching your engineering study with MAJ Solutions.

Can you carry out a study if the existing drawings or documentation are incomplete?

Yes. We can start with an analysis of the existing installation and the information available. Where needed, site visits, on-site surveys or additional checks can be carried out to complete the documentation and provide a reliable basis for design.

How do you build GMP and regulatory requirements in from the design stage?

In regulated environments, we identify the applicable requirements from the study phase. This makes it possible to anticipate traceability, documentation, risk management and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) needs, according to the criticality and requirements of the system concerned.

Can a MAJ Solutions study serve as the basis for a consultation or a tender?

Yes. Depending on the defined scope, we can prepare the scopes of work, technical specifications, drawings, diagrams and other documents needed to consult suppliers or integrators. These deliverables can be used independently of any implementation by MAJ Solutions.

A project to define or an installation to upgrade?

Tell us about your need, the information available and the constraints of your installation. Together, we can define the scope of the study and what is needed to move your project forward.
